Climate and Disaster Risk Finance Executive Education Program

On June 13-14 2024 the "Climate and Disaster Risk Finance Executive Education Program" convened by the World Bank Group as part of the World Bank Group (WBG) Academy was held in Oxford, United Kingdom. The program was co-delivered with the University of Oxford in partnership with the Global Shield against Climate Risks and the Insurance Development Forum. The executive education program was a part of the World Bank Group Academy, the Bank’s new initiative of delivering the Knowledge Bank. The program enabled meaningful knowledge exchange and provided deep insights into building financial resilience against disaster and climate risks.

The Program aimed to:

  • Deepen understanding of the purpose, scope, developmental impact, and fundamental principles of Disaster Risk Financing (DRF)
  • Equip participants with a comprehensive framework to contextualize DRF within their own country's setting
  • Foster a supportive community of peers dedicated to advancing the climate and disaster risk finance agenda, learning from, and supporting each other beyond the training's scope
  • Enhance the technical, policy, and operational capacity of the country participants to help design and implement climate and disaster risk finance reforms that enable investments for strengthening the financial resilience of their country
