Hannah McNally: Satellite Services and Insurance & Finance

The video was recorded as part of the webinar: Leveraging Space Technology for Climate Risk Finance.

Emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) rank among the most vulnerable to climate change, as they are exposed to both physical and transition risks associated with the shift to a low-carbon economy. Greater attention to users' needs for climate risk data, metrics, and innovative tools can significantly help unlock investments and financing decisions in EMDEs, especially in the current context where the world faces an enormous challenge to rebuilding economies devastated by COVID-19.

To address this demand, The World Bank Group (WBG)’s Crisis & Disaster Risk Finance (CDRF) at the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation (FCI) Global Practice has put in place a specific technical assistance - Crisis Risk Finance Analytics (CRFA) program, which aims to leverage innovative analytics at global, country and project levels to create an enabling environment for improved risk financing and risk management.

The program is funded by Global Risk Financing Facility and is under the joint technical partnership between the World Bank Group FCI and the European Space Agency (ESA) ’s Centre for Earth Observation (ESA-ESRIN). This webinar focused on World Bank Group client demand and explore practical use cases from the latest and most promising satellite technology around the development of climate risk information for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) monitoring and better-informed investments in EMDEs. Stay tuned for the post-event page.
