Between April 28 to May 4, 2021, a World Bank virtual mission was held to further the engagement between the government of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the World Bank on the disaster risk finance agenda. The World Bank team included Kaavya Krishna (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, EFNRF) and Barry Patrick Maher (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, EAEF2 & TTL).The primary objective of the mission was to present the first draft of the Disaster Risk Finance Diagnostic Report to obtain feedback and validation of the findings and recommendations.

The mission discussed additional support from the World Bank to the government of the Kingdom of Eswatini on: strengthening capacity of key government stakeholders on core disaster risk finance principles and the design and implementation of the disaster risk management fund. As next steps, both the WB team and the government will work on finalizing the Disaster Risk Finance Diagnostic Report and conduct more capacity building events.
