[Event Recap] WBG-SECO Knowledge Exchange Series: Managing Disaster Funds for Response and Recovery - Webinar #3

On July 27, 2021, in partnership with the Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the World Bank Group's (WBG) Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Program (DRFIP) hosted the 3rd session of the Knowledge Exchange Series. The session focused on the management of disaster funds for response and recovery. The series is a continuation, in virtual formats, of traditional knowledge exchange events that take place every two years to empower countries under the program through sharing their experience and knowledge in building financial resilience. 

The webinar commenced with opening remarks from Bolormaa Amgaabazar (Portfolio and Operations Manager, Indonesia and Timor-Leste, World Bank Group [WBG]). Samantha Cook (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance [CDRF], WBG) presented the framing presentation which discussed the role of disaster funds and key considerations for managing advantages and disadvantages of maintaining disaster reserve funds. Respective country experience and insights in managing disaster funds were shared by Kristiyato (Senior Policy Analyst, Fiscal Policy Agency, Ministry of Finance, Indonesia), Abdeljalil EL HAFRE (Division Head, Insurance and Social Welfare Division, Treasury and External Finance Department, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Morocco), Sid Miller (Chief Executive of the Earthquake Commission (EQC), New Zealand) and Scott McHardy (Head of Risk Financing at the Earthquake Commission (EQC), New Zealand).

The webinar was jointly facilitated by Hang Thu Vu (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, CDRF, WBG) and Rob Antich (Senior Consultant, CDRF, WBG). It featured a live poll function to better understand and interact with the audience. Over 150 participants from client countries, international organizations, private sector companies, non-governmental organizations, and academia attended the event.  

This Knowledge Exchange Series comprise 8 virtual sessions with complementary Fact Sheets and offers certificates to successful participants. Each session is promoted with a captivating teaser video and offers simultaneous interpretation services.
