[Event Recap] Global Risk Financing Facility (GRiF) Technical Talks Webinar #4 – Start Financing Facility

The fourth webinar of the Global Risk Financing Facility (GRiF) Technical Talks took place virtually on September 22, 2021. The webinar featured an in-depth discussion on Start Financing Facility, the financial infrastructure of the Start Network. Nicola Jenns (Disaster Risk Finance Advisor, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), UK) presented the opening remarks and discussed the importance of Start Financing Facility (SFF). Emily Montier (Head of Crisis Anticipation and Risk Financing, Start Network) delivered a lightening presentation to explain the relevance and contribution of SFF and the summary of GRiF support to the SFF. Following the lightening presentation, Benedikt Signer (Senior Financial Sector Specialist, Crisis and Disaster Risk Finance (CDRF), World Bank Group (WBG)) interviewed Amjad Ahmed (Disaster Risk Finance Coordinator, Start Network), Clare Harris (Technical Lead, Crisis Anticipation and Risk Financing, Start Network) and Emily Montier on how the SFF is designed to respond to a variety of global risks. The technical conversation focused on lessons learned in building local ownership, while also creating solutions that can be brought to scale.  

The webinar was facilitated by Sumati Rajput (Financial Sector Specialist, CDRF, WBG), featuring a live poll question to understand the participants better and interact with the audience. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session. The virtual session had over 170 registrations from 50 countries, and included donors, client representatives, international organizations, private sector companies, non-governmental organizations, and academia.  

The GRiF Technical Talks feature a series of short virtual sessions, providing an overview of GRiF as well as lessons learned from innovative projects around the world. The monthly webinars are accompanied by a fact sheet and a learning brief.
